On February 8, 2018, Hunan Province established sister-city relations with the Canton of Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
Situated in the northernmost territory of Switzerland, the Canton of Schaffhausen is largely enclosed by Germany. It spans an area of 298 square kilometres, equivalent to 0.7 percent of Switzerland’s total land area, and 82 percent of its borderlines adjoin Baden-Württemberg of Germany.
Geographically positioned at the central hub connecting major economic metropolises such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels and Rome, the canton enjoys superior geographic location, serving as an important economic node and an ideal gateway for international business exchanges. Its border proximity to Germany contributes to seamless connectivity with key EU markets.
Its distinctive geographical strengths consist in its profound acquaintance with the economic regimes and legal systems of both sides. With Switzerland’s sound legal framework and preferential tax policies, the canton is well-placed to deepen trade cooperation with the European Union. The canton is also famous for its developed light industry, where the production base of IWC Schaffhausen is located.
