In April 2017, Hunan Province established sister-city relations with Mogilev Region of The Republic of Belarus.
Mogilev Region is situated in eastern Belarus, bordering Smolensk Oblast and Bryansk Oblast of Russia. Covering an area of 29,100 square kilometres, it is dominated by plain landforms. The region administers 21 districts, 17 cities including two region-administered municipalities — Mogilev City and Bobruisk City, 6 town-level towns and 2,966 rural settlements. As of January 1, 2021, the region had a population of 1.0148 million, including 810,700 urban residents and 214,100 rural residents. Mogilev City, the regional capital, has a population of 357,400, while Bobruisk City, the second largest city, has 211,400 residents.
As one of the major industrial hubs in Belarus, Mogilev Region manufactures automobile tires, elevators, cement, chemical fibers and related products. Food processing, rubber products, plastic products, building materials, machinery manufacturing and timber processing also serve as pillar industries. In addition, the region has maintained stable grain output in recent years, mainly growing cereals, potatoes and forage crops.
Mogilev Region has carried out exchanges and cooperation with 109 countries worldwide, with its major trading partners including Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, China, Lithuania and Kazakhstan.
